Queen guitarist wraps studies for doctorate

Queen guitarist wraps studies for doctorate
Wed Jul 25, 8:43 PM ET

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Brian May, the lead guitarist from rock band Queen, is close to earning his doctorate in astrophysics -- more than 35 years after quitting his studies to become a rock star.

May arrived on the island of La Palma in Spain's Canary Islands several days ago to conduct astronomical observations in support of his thesis, according to a statement by the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands.

His thesis, "Radial Velocities in the Zodiacal Dust Cloud," is the last component of his PhD studies, and May expected to complete his work on Wednesday.

"Maybe you'd like to see the Telescope we are working in," May, 60, wrote on his Web site on Wednesday.

"Galileo ... Galileo ... how full of coincidences life is," he added, referring to the lyrics in Queen's hit song "Bohemian Rhapsody."

After submitting his thesis at Imperial College, London, he will have to wait until university assessors approve his work to be granted his PhD next year.

May was studying astrophysics at Imperial College when he formed Queen with singer Freddie Mercury and drummer Roger Taylor in 1970. He dropped his doctorate research into interstellar dust as the band met with increasing success.

After Mercury's AIDS-related death in 1991, May recorded several solo albums and set up the Brian May Band.

But his interest in astronomy continued, and he co-wrote "Bang! The Complete History of the Universe" with Patrick Moore and Chris Lintott, which was published last year.

Earlier this month, the writer of such Queen hits as "We Will Rock You" and "Fat Bottomed Girls" was granted an honorary doctorate from Exeter University in Devon, England.

School Employee Accused Of Trying To Buy Minors

School Employee Accused of Trying to Buy Minors
Thu Jul 26, 5:07 PM ET

The FBI Wednesday night searched the home of a local man charged in connection with trying to purchase children in Miami for sexual torture.

Jeff Doland, 45, is charged with the selling or buying of minors, a first-degree felony, and promoting the sexual performance of a child, a second-degree felony. Doland is the technology director for the Green Local School District.

Prosecutors said he flew to Miami believing he was going to meet a mother of two girls.

Instead, Doland met officials with the U.S. Secret Service.

Doland allegedly told the woman he would pay the woman $550 to "forcibly submerge the children, ages 9 and 12 years old, under water until they became unconsciousness, then raising the person out of the water."

During multiple Internet conversations, Doland allegedly told the woman, an undercover agent with the United States Secret Service, that "dunking" was his particular form of sexual gratification.

Officials said Doland claimed he "liked watching the bubbles" and went on to send the undercover agent explicit images of child torture as examples of what he proposed to do to the two young children, including a detailed explanation of how he planned to bind the young girls to the bottom of the pool of water.

Doland's neighbors were shocked by the news.

"I'm appalled," said Heidi Coup. "I'm absolutely appalled. It's shocking to me. I mean, it shocks anybody in a neighborhood if they here something like that. My gosh."

Doland remains in a Miami jail.

If he is convicted, he faces up to 45 years in prison.

Police: Man Planned To Use Choke Collars On Girls

Police: Man Planned To Use Choke Collars On Girls

A northeast Ohio man is accused of trying to buy children for sexual torture.

Jeff Doland, of Uniontown, was picked up by Miami police, where investigators said the 45-year-old planned to pay a mother of two girls to forcibly hold the children underwater until they passed out for his sexual pleasure.

An arrest affidavit NewsChannel5 obtained through the Florida state attorney's office is filled with a description of what Doland planned to do to the two girls, ages 9 and 12.

In reality, the girls did not exist. Undercover agents had made up the scenario as part of an Internet Crimes Taskforce operation.

"It's one of those things that you haven't really heard of before, but it's not something that shocks you because, depending on what your fetish is, on the Internet, you can find it," said Massillon police Detective Bobby Grizzard, of the FBI Internet Crimes Task Force.

Grizzard is part of the FBI's Internet Crimes Task Force, which in five years has caught almost 100 predators in Northeast Ohio.

Police said Doland was caught online chatting with a secret service agent he believed to be a mother of two girls. He used the online name Dunkingstool.

Grizzard took just two minutes to find a 32-year-old man from New Jersey online. When the detective typed that he was a 14-year-old girl from Ohio, the man typed "cool," and then asked about sex.

According to Doland's arrest papers, he was planning to have young girls perform sex acts on each other and on him.

He even brought three choke collars with him, allegedly to be used by the mother and girls.

Grizzard said many of these criminals are willing to talk about their plans because they're glad they've been caught.

"These individuals often, it's a relief for them that someone found out that they have this behavior. They know it's wrong but they just can't control it," said Grizzard. "The true sex offender will tell you, 'Unless you put me away from it, chances are that I will reoffend again.'"

Doland is the technology director for the Green Local School District.

Doland is currently being held in the Dade County Jail in Miami.

His arraignment is scheduled for Aug. 15.

Stab victim continued masturbating

Stab victim continued masturbating

http://www.dazereader.com/24001042.htm Men are sex-obsessed freaks, this is well known. Most of us can just barely resist masturbating nonstop all day long. And then there's this guy: Stab victim continued masturbating.

Defence lawyers for Kylie Louise Wilson, 28, said the mother of two "lost it" when her friend of six years, Daniel Peter Blair, went on a masturbation marathon on April 6 last year. Brisbane's District Court this morning heard Mr Blair had showed up at Wilson's unit at Birkdale unit, in Redland Shire, where he took amphetamines before having a shower.
Whilst in the bathroom, Mr Blair, 32, began pleasuring himself, before moving to Wilson's bedroom, where he rolled around naked on her bed and continued his lewd conduct. He returned to the bathroom for more and was busted by Wilson, who was attempting to bath her three-and-a-half year-old daughter.
The court heard Mr Blair refused her repeated requests to stop, prompting her to fetch a knife from the kitchen which she used to stab him twice in the left shoulder.
Crown prosecutors said Mr Blair paused only to put on his shorts and flee outside to wait for police to arrive, but was again overcome by the urge. "Despite his injury, it seems (Mr Blair) continued to masturbate while in the garage," the prosecutor said.

Drugs are bad, mmmkay?

Countries need bigger or smaller condoms

Countries need bigger or smaller condoms

http://www.dazereader.com/24001050.htm Stereotypes can be ignorant, divisive and constraining. But some stereotypes have a degree of truth which we're all better off acknowledging and discussing openly. One example: ethnicity and penis size. Condoms 'too big' for Indian men.

The two-year study was carried out by the Indian Council of Medical Research.
Over 1,200 volunteers from the length and breadth of the country had their penises measured precisely, down to the last millimetre. The scientists even checked their sample was representative of India as a whole in terms of class, religion and urban and rural dwellers.
The conclusion of all this scientific endeavour is that about 60% of Indian men have penises which are between three and five centimetres shorter than international standards used in condom manufacture.
Doctor Chander Puri, a specialist in reproductive health at the Indian Council of Medical Research, told the BBC there was an obvious need in India for custom-made condoms, as most of those currently on sale are too large.
The issue is serious because about one in every five times a condom is used in India it either falls off or tears, an extremely high failure rate.
And the country already has the highest number of HIV infections of any nation.

Elsewhere, Large condoms for South African men.

A range of extra-large condoms has been launched in South Africa, to cater for "well-endowed" men.
"A large number of South African men are bigger and complain about condoms being uncomfortable and too small," said Durex manager Stuart Roberts.
Aids activists say the new condom could encourage men to practise safe sex in South Africa, where some 6m are HIV positive - more than any other country.
Some South Africans are reluctant to use condoms, says activist Thandi Xolo.
Mr Xolo, from the National Association of People Living With HIV/Aids (Napwa), said both men and women fear being labelled as promiscuous if they are seen with condoms. "This could help condoms become cool," he said. "Men will buy them to boost their ego."
Even more importantly, it will remove the excuse made by some men for not using condoms - that they are too small.

Why aren't there more gradations in condom length/width, like shoe sizes? If ego is an issue, call them "massive", "massiver" and "massivest".

Official [retired Baptist pastor, conservative lawmaker and outspoken advocate for Christian groups] accused of paying for sex

Official accused
of paying for sex

SBI: Cabarrus' Privette met with woman at motel in May and June

Coy Privette, in a photo taken for the most recent Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners.

Coy Privette, a retired Baptist pastor, conservative lawmaker and outspoken advocate for Christian groups, was charged Thursday with paying a prostitute for sex acts.

The 74-year-old Cabarrus County commissioner was arrested at his home in Kannapolis early Thursday. He appeared before a Rowan County magistrate on six misdemeanor charges and was released on a promise to appear in court Aug. 22. He did not return e-mails or calls to his cell and home phones, and no one answered the door at his Kannapolis home.

Privette, a prominent Republican with a 30-year career, is one of the state's most vocal opponents against alcohol sales and legal gambling. He also serves on the State Baptist Convention of North Carolina and as president of the Christian Action League of North Carolina.

At a news conference in Raleigh late Thursday, the league's executive director announced Privette's suspension as president until his court case is resolved.

"We have a responsibility to reserve judgment," said the Rev. Mark Creech, executive director, "but it's also important to preserve the integrity of this organization."

Milton Hollifield Jr., executive director of the Baptist Convention, said he was unable to reach Privette for an explanation. Nothing has been decided about his role with the organization.

"He has been a faithful and loyal servant to his state and the convention for many years," Hollifield said. "I believe Coy will do the right thing with regards to his responsibilities to the convention."

Suspicious check started probe

Privette was charged with six counts of aiding and abetting or participating in prostitution, said Woody Chavis, interim Kannapolis police chief. The charges stem from a Kannapolis bank contacting police about a suspicious check written off Privette's checking account, Chavis said. The bank also called Privette, who filed a forgery affidavit, Chavis said. The bank reimbursed him and the Police Department began investigating.

Law enforcement sources said a woman had a blank check with Privette's signature. She filled it out for $1,000 but couldn't cash it without an ID, so she asked a friend to do it, the sources said. Another check with Privette's signature, for $4,000, was not cashed, they said.

Chavis said the check investigation led detectives to "illegal activity" in Salisbury.

Kannapolis police called Rowan District Attorney William Kenerly, who asked the State Bureau of Investigation to investigate. Kenerly declined to comment.

Warrants issued by the SBI on Thursday accuse Privette of paying Tiffany Denise Summers, 32, of Salisbury, for sexual acts from May 4 through June 25 in a Salisbury hotel room. A witness listed on the warrants is a narcotics investigator for the Kannapolis Police Department.

Summers was charged with six counts of prostitution, according to the warrants.

The Salisbury Post asked Privette about a possible investigation about two weeks ago, the newspaper reported Thursday. Privette said he lost his wallet at a Salisbury restaurant, and when he got it back two personal checks were missing, according to the newspaper.

Summers has previous convictions for drug possession, prostitution and possessing stolen goods, according to court documents. Last month, Salisbury police officers picked her up near a hotel where rooms are rented by the hour. Salisbury officers have arrested her several times for drug activity, Salisbury Police Chief Mark Wilhelm said. In one case, according to court documents, Summers was found with a man's ATM card.

When contacted by the Observer on Thursday, Summers would only comment on the charges against her, saying: "I don't think it's right."

`Shocked and dismayed'

The forgery complaint is still under investigation by Kannapolis police, Chavis said.

Fellow commissioners had not heard from Privette as of Thursday evening. He initially planned to meet with the county manager Thursday afternoon but changed his mind and left town, Chairman Bob Carruth said.

There is no law requiring a public official who's charged with a crime to resign. If Privette stepped down, a replacement would be chosen by the county's Republican Party, officials said.

Privette has been a member of the board since 1998 and was a member of the state House from 1984 to 1992.

He is a longtime member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church, where he was named a pastor emeritus, a high honor, the Rev. David Prather said.

"We're shocked and dismayed and just concerned for the family -- children, grandchildren, wife -- and trying to reach out to them," he said.

Privette was pastor at the church for 14 years and has been a leader of the men's ministry. The church sponsored Privette and his wife, Betty, on visits to China to teach English as a second language.

"Just as his pastor, I'm trying to reach out to him and his wife and let him know we still love him," Prather said.

Who would have thought that Texas, the conservative Republican state, is 2nd In the Nation on Sex Seeking Enthusiasts?

Who would have thought that Texas, the conservative Republican state, is 2nd In the Nation on Sex Seeking Enthusiasts?

While Texas may be perceived as a highly religious and conservative stronghold, deep in the heart of the Bible Belt, it’s beat out only by California, and Florida is a close 3rd in the number of adults actively looking for sex on the internet.

Are we making this up? Now way!

These revealing numbers are reported by one of the largest adult web sites on the internet. The numbers will really surprise you…

If you don’t already know, Adult Friend Finder is the largest sex and swinger personals web site on the internet today with 22,319,717 members. That’s almost identical to the population of Texas which is 23,507,783. Hmmm… That’s a lot of people on just this one website.

What is a sex and swinger personals web site? Well, it’s basically a dating site for singles and couples looking for sex. What many people don’t realize is that Adult Friend Finder gets more visitors every day than Match.com and eHarmony put together!

That’s no big surprise. But what IS a surprise is that Texas is ranked #2 in the number of subscribers to this web site.

Here is the state by state breakdown of the top sex enthusiasts in the U.S., according to Adult Friend Finder:

  • California - 1.2 million (That’s 3.3% of the state population)
  • Texas - 800,000 (That’s 3.4% of the state population)
  • Florida - 743,000 (That’s 4.1% of the state population)
  • New York - 660,000 (That’s 3.4% of the state population)
  • Illinois - 429,000 (That’s 3.3% of the state population)

Wow, what’s truly amazing here is that Texas - the heart of the Bible Belt - is #2 in all of the U.S. with a larger percentage of the population subscribing than California!

Is Texas shedding it’s ultra conservative facade? Or will the truth remain buried behind closed doors with faceless pictures on the top sex personals sites like Adult Friend Finder?

Here are some more interesting facts about sex on the internet

While it’s difficult to identify the exact number of internet users, ComScore Media Metrix reports 4% of all Web traffic and 2% of all time spent Web surfing involved an adult site.

  • According to a recent study by Google, adult content is the most sought after content by users with cellphones. Google’s team found that 20 percent of searches on cellphones were for adult content, while only 5 percent of searches on PDAs were for it. The researchers sifted through 1 million searches by users of their mobile search software to come up with these numbers.
  • The AVN Annual Survey of the Adult Industry 2006 asserts that the adult entertainment industry is nearly a $13 billion business in 2006, mostly in the form of adult videos. But the delivery mechanism is changing… Internet sales of adult content, which includes images, live-chat and live-streaming video, has now become the second largest adult entertainment segment, with 22 percent of the market or $2.8 billion in sales.

So, are more than 23 million people wrong? Or are the rules and social stigmas against sex and enjoying our sexuality outdated remnants of the Victorian age?

Obviously the demand is there, but so are the ultra conservative religious extremists and the lawmakers that they keep in their pockets. Which explains why prostitution is still illegal in most states and certain sexual acts between consenting adults are illegal in the privacy of their own homes. The fact that consenting adults cannot do whatever they choose in the privacy of their own homes, without causing harm to anyone, is outrageous!

This is also why Janet Jackson was persecuted for her wardrobe malfunction during the Superbowl a few years back (the most replayed moment in TiVo history) and Chicago TV reporter, Amy Jacobson, was persecuted for doing an interview in her swimsuit. Exactly what is wrong with a breast and a belly button anyway? Really… Stop and think about that for just a moment.

When will we say enough is enough?
